One of the many strengths of the Hotel SHG Salute Palace is its proximity to the Guggenheim Foundation in Venice.
This important collection is located on The Grand Canal at the Palazzo Venier dei Leoni.
You can reach the Museum by walking just 35 metres in a westerly direction along the Dorsoduro.
The Hotel SHG Salute Palace, which is so close to the Guggenheim Foundation in Venice, makes it really easy for guests to visit the amazing collection that’s housed in the museum which is one of the most important art collections in Italy focussing on American and European art from the first half of the 1900’s.
The museum is home to the large, personal art collection belonging to Peggy Guggenheim, the ex-wife of the artist Max Ernst, nephew of the famous magnate, Solomon R. Guggenheim.
The location of the Hotel SHG Salute Palace, which is near the Palazzo Venier and the Peggy Guggenheim Foundation in Venice, presents an opportunity to admire numerous masterpieces of American modernism and Italian futurism.
In addition to these, there are wonderful examples of cubism and surrealist works of abstract impressionism. You’ll be able to admire the unique talents of Picasso, Salvador Dalì, René Magritte, Brancusi, William Congdon, Conrad Marca-Relli and Jackson Pollock.
This is a collection that is rounded off with exhibits of informal Italian abstract works with examples from Fontana, Basaldella, Bonalumi, Scialoja, Santomaso, Parmeggiani, Vedova and Gilardi.
The Peggy Guggenheim Foundation was expanded in 2016 with the creation of a cafeteria, a small educational centre and a warehouse for storing works that aren’t currently on display.
Additional new features are the opening up of the museum for educational activities for primary schools and for families.
The museum is open daily from 10:00 to 18:00. It is closed on Tuesdays and on 25th December. The cost of an entrance ticket is €15.00.
